Rie Sheridan Rose's Contribution to FERAL, IT TAKES A FOREST TO RAISE A CHILD

FERAL, It Takes a Forest to Raise a Child, has been released by West Mesa Press. The anthology contains stories from fifteen of today's best and hardest working writers.

Buy Feral

Rie Sheridan Rose, one of my favorite writers and editors, contributed the wonderfully clever story, ‘Going Native.’ At the risk of giving too much away, she employs a role reversal in her engaging tale. "Who's the human here?

Rie Sheridan Rose multitasks. Her short stories appear in numerous anthologies, including On Fire, Hides the Dark Tower, and Killing It Softly Vol. 1 and 2. She has authored twelve novels, six poetry chapbooks, and lyrics for dozens of songs.
On a personal note, she's been very supportive of my work in her capacity as an editor. I admire her patience.
“Mutiny on the Moonbeam” is one of her novels. Here’s the link:

"FERAL: It Takes a Forest to Raise a Child" released. Stuart Conover is today's featured writer.

Amazon approved FERAL, It Takes a Forest to Raise a Child ahead of schedule and the book has been published and is available for purchase.

Purchase "Feral"

Stuart Conover
is today's featured writer. His cross genre contribution, "Elsie's Ward," is a combination of horror and high fantasy. Stuart reinforces an important lesson. Never, ever, piss off a dragon.
Stuart's website,www.horrortree.com has been a constant source of information and inspiration.
Stuart Conover is a father, husband, rescue dog owner, horror author, blogger, journalist, horror enthusiast, comic book geek, science fiction junkie, and IT professional. With all of that to cram in on a daily basis, it is highly debatable that he ever is able to sleep and rumors have him attached to an IV drip of caffeine to get through most days.
A resident in the suburbs of Chicago, most of Stuart’s fiction takes place in the Midwest if not the Windy City itself. From downtown to the suburbs to the cornfields - the area is ripe for urban horror.
'Oceans' was released on April 14th, 2020, and contains five of his drabbles: “His Last Days at Sea”, “Lost Beneath the Waves”, “The Last Resort,” “The Lost Isles,” and “The Self-Sustaining Outpost.”
'Solitude' was released on January 14th, 2020, and reprints his story "We Lost Charlie Today" which was originally released in 'Soul Survivors Volume II.'
'Horror USA: California' was released on December 13th, 2019, and reprints his story "Fry Machete's Monsters, Munchies, and Mayhem" which was originally released in 'Dead of Winter.'
'Trembling With Fear: Year 2' was released on July 5th, 2019 which he co-edited with Stephanie Ellis and contains a number of his drabbles.

Dorothy Howell, Contibutes, "A Feral State of Mind' to Feral anthology. It takes a forest to raise a child.

FERAL, the anthology is closer to publication every day. Today’s featured contributor is Dorothy Howell, a lady I’ve known for over 34 years, but have never met. She and I were charter members of the Edgar Rice Burroughs Amateur Press Association, which is published 4 times a year and issue number 146 was just released.

Dorothy's contribution, “A Feral State of Mind,” is a remarkable period piece featuring the protagonist from her outstanding novel, “Where You Can Hear the Sea and See the Sound.”
Inspired by childhood on the Connecticut shoreline combined with fascination for Native Americans and Tarzan of the Apes, Howell proceeded from ecology to environmental law to engaging hearts and minds in addressing environment matters. She focuses on how formative places help make each of us who we are and what happens when we are separated, often involuntarily, from such places, in short: self, place, and identity – and identity in exile. Tarzan is compelling as the ultimate identity in exile, at home in the extremes of wilderness and civilization. In both he moves with intelligence, grace, and dignity while most of us are caught closer to the civilized extreme.
Her publications include Intellectual Properties and the Protection of Fictional Characters and the environmental trilogy: Scientific Literacy and Environmental Policy, Ecology for Environmental Professionals, Environmental Stewardship: Images from Popular Culture. Her self-published Where You Can Hear the Sea and See the Sound is the culmination of her “mission.”

J. F. Capps Contibutes "On A Bayou" to FERAL, an anthology. It takes a forest to raise a child.

FERAL, the anthology is still scheduled for release in paperback and on Kindle on September 1, 2020. I'll review the proof copy today, assuming it's delivered by 8 PM as scheduled.

Remember, it takes a forest to raise a child.

J. F. Capps contributed “On A Bayou” to this anthology. The story takes place in the Louisiana swamps. Damn, I’m a sucker for a good Louisiana story, but this combination of mystery and horror is an excellent story that will leave you smelling the scent of bayou water and brushing decayed cypress leaves from your hair. You’ll never feel the same about wading in muddy water again.
. J.F. Capps is the author of "Ophedities and the Dragon", "Eddie,” and "Winter's Orphans.” He spent twelve years with the U.S. Marine Corps, both active duty and reserve components, and currently works as a professional woodsman. He lives on a small farm in the hills of east Tennessee with his wife and four kids.

Robin Lupton has a story in "Feral," an anthology about children raised in the wild.

FERAL, an anthology of feral children stories is still on schedule for release on September 1, 2020.

Remember, it takes a forest to raise a child!
Robin Lupton, my daughter who lives in England and is an editor for a major textbook publisher contributed one story and shared authorship of another. Robin’s Kipling homage, “How The Rabbit’s Got Their Ears and Tails” is a child friendly fun story. She and I wrote “Flamingo Dawn: The Legend of Keri Flamingo.” Flamingo Dawn was written as a threat to contributors who were lagging in sending in their stories, but the tale turned out quite well and I felt obligated to include it in this volume.
Robin Lupton lives, writes, and runs in the UK. She’s had stories published in “Running Into Trouble,” published by West Mesa Press, “Creepy Crawlers,” and “Letters of Love.” She is a member of the British Fantasy Society and has served as judge for their annual awards in previous years.

J. F. Terrell, Jr. has a short story in "FERAL," an anthology.

FERAL, an anthology of stories about children raised by animals will be released on September 1, 2020. It takes a forest to raise a child.

J. F. Terrell, Jr. was one of the first writers to agree to write a story for “Feral.” Within minutes of discussing it, he suggested a story line, that I thought would be great. J. F. (Jess) held his vision and wrote an engaging story about family bonds and parental love. There’s a touch of environmental justice and a strong sense of right and wrong. “The Way of the Wolf” is one of those stories that when I finished it, I didn’t want it to be over.
I hope J. F. Terrell, Jr. will give us another glimpse into “The Way of the Wolf.”
J. F. Terrell, Jr. is best known as one of the administrators in the Facebook discussion group "For the Love of All Things Edgar Rice Burroughs". As of this morning, Facebook says that the group has 4,212 members.
Retired from an I.T. career that spanned 42 years, Terrell now devotes his time to the exploration of Edgar Rice Burroughs' legacy.
Terrell regularly contributes essays and short fiction to ERB-APA, the Amateur Press Association chapter dedicated to Edgar Rice Burroughs.
An active member of the Burroughs Bibliophiles, Terrell has also served as a consultant to the Edgar Rice Burroughs collection at the University of Louisville and provided editorial services to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc.
Terrell holds an M.B.A. from Sullivan University based in Louisville, Kentucky.

Feral: It takes a forest to raise a child: Once Free by David Morris

Yesterday, I almost finishing touches on the Kindle version of the manuscript for “Feral,” an anthology about feral children featuring 15 of the busiest and finest writers working today.

I say almost because Kindle Publishing insists on restoring deleted comments in two of the stories and including them in the book. I’ve deleted the comments three times and uploaded the book each time, to no avail. Time to call Kindle publishing help. If anyone has encounter this before, please message me.

“Once Free” was written specifically for this collection by David Morris, a writer with five novels to his name. David’s submission isn’t one of the ones that Kindle has decided to put a hex upon.

David Morris grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, from the time he was seven. In 2010, after moving a number of times he finally settled in Palm Springs, California where he finally had the time to write.

His first novel was his own biography. He’ll never publish it, but it helped to give him the skills and the drive to continue. ‘Once Free’, is his first short story. I hope it won’t be his last.

He writes Suspense/Romance and what he likes to call Science Fiction of the Possible. He has five novels available. Jason’s Virus was written a few years ago and it’s especially prophetic in light of the word we live in right now.

Spots Book One: The Youth Tablets
Spots Book Two: The People at the Pond/Second Chance
Spots Book Three: The Finale/The Lost Tablets
Jason’s Virus
The Time Ship

Every day is one day closer to the release of “Feral,” an anthology of feral children stories scheduled for September 1, 2020. Shebat Legion is one of the excellent writers to have a story in the book. Her beautiful and evocative story is titled “The Song of Abby.” Without too man spoilers, a child is raised by an ancient oak tree. For me it brought to mind visions of druids and dryads.

Shebat Legion is a consummate producer/storyteller who has been printed and reprinted in numerous anthologies, including her collection of short stories called Hubris. Legion is responsible for the creation of Vampire Therapy, which includes a full-length novel, “Jackson and Eva,” as well as an illustrated collection of short stories set in the Vampire Therapy universe called “The Chronicles of The Cats Ass Boutique: Seasons and Reasons.” Legion's most recent production credit is the illustrated anthology of short stories, featuring over sixty authors, “Klarissa Dreams Redux,” the second in the Klarissa Dreams series, with proceeds to breast cancer research and awareness.

Besides both being writers, Shebat Legion and I share another bond. We are both cancer survivors. I'm pretty sure she feels the same way about cancer that I do. Every day I wake up is another day that cancer can kiss my ass.

You can find Shebat on Facebook and Amazon at the following links:

The anthology, "Feral," is still on track for publication on September 1, 2020. Tim Pulo, writer, editor, and publisher was kind enough to write a story for the book. "Amongst the Cackle" has a real Frankenstein feel.

Living in the north of Sydney, Australia, Timothy Pulo is an avid writer across many different genres. He enjoys writing short stories, longer works of fiction, and experimenting with comics, finding inspiration in pp-culture and unusual encounters experienced in his daily life. In between juggling the frenetic pace of being married to his beautiful wife and have three young spirited boys, Timothy endeavours to put as many of his atypically wonderful and random ideas onto paper as he can, in the hope of entertainment for readers. Timothy can be found on Twitter at @timothypulo.

Tim created a world of superheroes and supervillians, "Divine Five." Four anthologies have been published in the series so far, and number five isn't far behind. Check them out.

Today's featured author who has a story featured in the upcoming anthology, "Feral," is Stephanie Ellis. Her horror story, "The Moulting," will make you look under the bed and in the closet. I appreciate her work. I think you will too.

FERAL," an anthology of stories about feral children is scheduled for publication the first of September. 15 of the best writers working today have written a feral child story for this volume. I'm sure most of you will recognize some, if not all, of them.

I'll identify at least contributor each day, in the order that I received their story, until the book is released.

The illustration attached is a early rendition of the cover. The lettering will be changed in color and in size on the final version. All contributors will be listed on the front or rear cover of the book.

The first writer featured is Serena DuBois. Here's her bio:

Serena DuBois has been writing for both pleasure and publication for most of her adult life. She has had poetry published in the University of California at Davis literary magazine Parados and From Anugraha to Amanecer: The SWI 10th Anniversary Anthology and in other two anthologies. She wrote a regular column for the Rainbow Magazine, and has written articles for Explore for the Professional. Her short story “The Visitor” can be found on ERBList’s Pulp Fiction page, http://erblist.com/fanfiction/index.html#shortstories. She is currently working on a series of futuristic novels laid in 2060, well after “the Year of Shaking and Burning” and preparing her cross-genre novel A Thousand Ancestors for publication.
