June 20, 2025 and one hundred and two years ago in 1923, Edgar Rice Burroughs began writing the tenth Tarzan novel, “Tarzan and the Ant Men.” One of my favorites, the novel was originally serialized in Argosy All-Story Weekly from February 2 through March 15, 1924. A.C. McClurg published the first edition on September 30. 1924 with a wrap-around dust jacket by J. Allen St. John.
Publishing details, several illustrations, and an electronic version of the novel are available for no cost at: https://www.erbzine.com/mag4/0497.html
The 100-word drabble for today, "Ant Men Got No Reason,” was inspired by the novel and by Randy Newman, who I expect deserves an apology for this post.
Ant Men got no reason
Ant Men got no reason
Ant Men got no reason
To live
They got little hands
And little ant sized eyes
And they walk around me
At a fourth my size
They got little noses
And got tiny little teeth
They don’t wear shoes
On their nasty little feet
They got little bitty spears
And they act really tough
Stick you in the leg
‘Less you’re fast enough
Sneak up behind you
And stab your ass.
